Terms of Service
Last updated: May 9, 2026
Welcome to PromptMetrics. These Terms of Service govern your use of our website, open-source software, and related services. By accessing or using PromptMetrics, you agree to these terms.
1. About the Project
PromptMetrics is an open-source, self-hosted prompt registry with GitHub-backed versioning and metadata logging for LLM observability. It is released under the MIT License. You are free to use, modify, and distribute the software for personal or commercial purposes. The software is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind.
2. Self-Hosted Software
The core PromptMetrics registry is designed to be self-hosted. When you self-host, you are responsible for your own infrastructure, security, data storage, and compliance. We do not have access to your self-hosted instance, your prompts, or your telemetry data unless you explicitly configure external integrations.
3. Website and Documentation
This website (promptmetrics.dev) provides documentation, guides, and information about the project. We may collect basic analytics to understand how visitors use the site. We do not track individual users across the web or sell your data.
4. No Warranties
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF, OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.
5. GitHub Integration
PromptMetrics uses GitHub for prompt versioning. When you connect your GitHub account, you authorize PromptMetrics to read and write to repositories you specify. You are responsible for managing repository access and ensuring compliance with GitHub's Terms of Service.
6. LLM Provider Integration
The optional LLM playground proxy supports multiple providers. You are responsible for your own API keys, rate limits, and compliance with the terms of service of any LLM provider you connect. We do not store or process your LLM API keys unless explicitly configured by you.
7. OpenTelemetry Export
Optional OpenTelemetry export allows you to send traces to your own observability backend. You are responsible for configuring and securing these exports. We do not have access to exported data.
8. Compliance Engine
The optional compliance engine scans prompts for sensitive data such as API keys or personally identifiable information. While we provide this tool, you are ultimately responsible for ensuring your use of LLMs complies with applicable laws and regulations, including data protection requirements.
9. Trademarks
The name "PromptMetrics" and associated logos are trademarks of the project maintainers. While the software is freely available under the MIT License, you may not use our trademarks without permission.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the website or software after changes constitutes acceptance.
